Shropshire is one of the least crowded and most peaceful areas of England. Now one of the few remaining rural idylls, it has a long history of wild border conflicts which have left a legacy of atmospheric hillforts, earthworks and castles.
Within these timeless landscapes there are charming market towns each with its own distinctive character: Ellesmere, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Bishops Castle, Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bridgnorth. Among enticing streets and alleyways you will find antique and craft shops, inns and teashops rubbing shoulders with traditional grocers, butchers and bakers.

Stokesay Castle. A very romantic 13th Century fortified manor house.
The Ironbridge Gorge Museums. The world's first iron bridge (oddly beautiful) spanning the River Severn. Birth place of the industrial revolution, Ironbridge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Ironbridge Gorge Museums are nine award winning museums and sites that tell this momentous story.
The Severn Valley Railway. Britains premier steam railway, 16 miles of glorious countryside and restored stations. Shropshire has many other steam train attractions besides.
Wroxeter Roman City (Viroconium). The fourth largest Roman city in Britain. Wroxeter was also the city of Camelot from the ledgend of King Arthur. Much to see and learn. You can follow the trail of the Real King Arthur.
The Royal Airforce Museum Cosford. Aviation history brought to life, the largest collection of missiles in the country. Exciting displays of civil and military planes…Last of the few.
Weston Park. Ancestral home of the Earls of Bradford. Lots of events, concerts and the occasional world summit too.
Hawkstone Historic Park and Follies. Wooded magical land of Grottoes, caves, cliffs and follies. Setting for the TV Chronicles of Narnia. Awesome.
Wroxeter Roman Vineyard. One of the worlds most northerly vineyards producing red, white and sparkling wines.

Shropshire - Gardens Galore!
In Shropshire you'll find a trug-full of famous bloomers, there are plantsman's gardens, ornamental and water-gardens, nurseries and wooded walks. Blooming gardens full of classic English spring and summer flowers and landscapes touched by Capability Brown and Gertrude Jekyll.
Shropshire's gardens are not to be sniffed at. (Oh yes they are! - Blooming Marvelous!)

Historic Piles!
PG Wodehouse described Shropshire as "the nearest earthly place to paradise" and he knew a thing or two. He also wisely set Bladings Castle in this neck of the woods at Weston Park to be precise. But then he could have justifiably chosen a number of equally suitable properties. You only have to look at the elegance of Attingham Park, the majesty of Powis Castle or the mysterious Ludlow Castle, home to the Ludlow Festival to make a case.
