Shropshire's established group representatives are able to provide you with a range of services and their local knowledge and professional approach make tailor made and bespoke itineraries a Shropshire speciality.

The Youth Exchange Service (YES) works with overseas and UK visitors wanting to visit Shropshire. YES can provide itineraries for individual client's needs and also offers work experience and English lessons for overseas visitors.To contact the YES, please click here

SUGGESTED ITINERARIES FOR GROUPS

Shropshire has plenty to offer both coach parties and individual visitors wanting to explore the county by car. To make you want to return for more, we have compiled several different itineraries for you to choose from. Alternatively you can design your own tour and discover Shropshire for yourself. All of the attractions listed accept groups, however it is advisable to contact the establishments individually.

ARRANGING GUIDING SERVICES AND TOURS

Shropshire Guided Tours

Shrewsbury Tourism offers guiding services with professionally trained blue badge guides. Guided walking tours of Shrewsbury Town are particularly extensive and reveal the stories, characters and events that shaped the Tudor Town. Walking tours include the facinating Ghostly Shrewsbury themed tours as well as Brother Cadfael, Charles Darwin and general interest historical tours. Tours can be arranged at any time of the year, contact Shrewsbury Visitor Information Centre Tel: 01743 281200 for details. Guides for coach tours of Shropshire and for slide talks are also available.

The historic market town of Oswestry offers costumed and themed walking tours with local trained guides. Medieval or Victorian Oswestry tours are available. Walking tours can be arranged at any time of the year to suit your group. For a spine tingling tour of haunted Oswestry, there are also Ghoulish and Ghost Tours which take place on Tuesdays throughout October. The Ironbridge Gorge Museums also offer guiding services with a guide accompanying your group around any three of the ten museums of your choice. Guides are available for a full or half day. For further information contact the Ironbridge Gorge Museums on 01952 435900

Guiding Services

For other guided town tours please contact the Visitor Information Centre of the town of your choice.

The National Trust also offer guided tours at Chirk Castle and Powis Castle.

Chirk Castle, near Oswestry offer a Suds and Starch tour which, in contrast to its elegant staterooms housing elaborate plasterwork and grand portraits, allows groups to discover how the hard working servants really worked in the wet and dry laundries. See the 'Vowel' washing machine a vintage spin dryer and a box mangle with its ingenious system of gears and chains. Take a look at the heavy irons and be amazed at the perfection that was expected from folding and ironing frills!

Group tours of the house and the laundry are available in the morning from Wednesday - Sunday 25th March - 29th October. The pre-booked tours last 1 1/2 hours. For more information contact Chirk Castle

Powis Castle, near Welshpool offer a range of tours from a Green Fingers tour of the magnificent gardens to a private tour of the Castle, a Paintings Tour and a Furniture Tour.

The Green Fingers Tour is accompanied by the head gardener and his green fingered staff who will give your group an invaluable insight into the secrets of Powis Castle's world famous garden. Tours of the garden last 11/2-2 hours and costs £18.60 per person. The tours are only available in the Autumn.

A Private Tour of the Castle will take your group on a fascinating journey of the last 400 years uncovering the ambitions and secrets of the Herbert family. Whilst the Painting Tour will allow your group to discover the history and importance of the impressive collection and how they are cared for by the specialists. The Furniture Tour meanwhile, focuses on the history and care of the fantastic furniture at the Castle.

All tours inside the Castle cost £21.60 per person and last from 2-2 1/2 hours. All tours are available daily except Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the open season. For more information contact Powis Castle

For overseas groups, the Youth Exchange Service, in Shrewsbury offer groups or individuals over 16 years of age the opportunity to live with a Shropshire host and undertake work experience. Special interest programmes and sports with language courses are also available. For more information contact the Youth Exchange Service
